Find at least one GeocacheI did it! I found a Geocache!

It's been something that has always been in the back of my mind as a thing to try one day. And why not make that day today. We decided to take the pup out for an evening stroll, I looked on the Geocache app to see where the closest cache was and we set off. It was quick half mile trek to the hiding space and it wasn't on anyone's private property. The perfect place to start.

The Cache

It took a little bit because once we got there the sun was gone, leaving very little light. We turned on our cellphone flashlights and 5 minutes later, I had the cache in hand!

Tired Pup - and the cutest

Sadly, I forgot to grab a pen so I didn't get to write my name in it, but it's not a far trek to go back and sign it later. We walked back by way of the park letting the pup run a bit. And once home it was time for popsicles and ice cream and cuddles. Finding at least one geocache was on the to do list, but I will probably keep on the look out for more.

I have gone berry picking since I was a kid. This is not a new thing for me. But it's a time honored ritual that means more to me than just having the best strawberries in the world at my finger tips. It symbolizes that the harvest has begun.

Cutest

Besides leafy greens and over wintered root veggies, strawberries are one of the first big harvested crops here in the pacific northwest. I guess peas are in there as well. When that first container of strawberries marked "product of Oregon" show up in the store, my hearts jumps for joy and I immediately begin scheming as to when I can get out to the fields and harvest some of the delicious fruit myself.

In true Oregon fashion, we didn't cancel our picking plans due to the rain, but relished the promise of less crowds and quiet open spaces. Armed with rain coats, rubber boots, and flat boxes, we set out toward the field marked "hoods." Hoods are the candy of strawberries. Though tiny, they are red through to the center, sweet and pack a punch in juicy flavor.

They might be tiny, but they are tasty!

Lately, we've been craving ice cream with all this heat (80 is hot for us Oregonians in May). So I blended up some of the strawberries with a bit of coconut milk and honey and put it in the freezer to harden. Later, we'll have "ice cream." I whipped up some strawberry kiwi Popsicles as well. We ate a few and froze the rest to be used throughout the summer. There will be more treats (and more picking!) to come. Strawberry Rhubarb pie and jam are a must, as well as some strawberry balsamic jam (which is amazing on toast with sharp white cheddar)! I want to try roasting a few on the grill. Fruit leather, pancake syrup, breakfast smoothies, etc....

Naturally, all of this berry mixing awoke the domestic goddess and I made some fresh chicken soup and quinoa, scrubbed the cast iron I just bought at Goodwill and began the seasoning process, oiled the wooden cutting boards, and prepped lunches for tomorrow. I'm thankful for the cool day today or else all that stove and oven use would've been unbareable.

What item on the list might tomorrow hold?

As summer draws near, scrolling through Facebook, I keep seeing articles about summer plans, lists of ideas for activities, and beautiful pictures of others' adventures. As I was reading over one such article, I was inspired to make my own list of adventures that need to be had. I have had many hopes and dreams about summer adventures in years pasts, and then life gets busy, daily routines take over, and the end of the summer shows up with not nearly as much to show for it as I had hoped.

I have always been an avid list maker. The thrill of crossing things off a list is enough motivation to get out and get things those listed things done. So, I began compiling the list that will help guide by summer adventures. I found a few other such lists, taking a some items from here, a couple from there, and over the last week complied an inspiring collection to guide the next few months. The list includes things I know I will enjoy, things I have been hoping to do, and few fears that I want to conquer (i.e. rope swings). I know have my 101 Things To Do: Summer Edition. (I even started compiling the Fall Edition, because I love LISTS).

I will document the journey and share my adventures here on my blog. I welcome co-adventurers. If you want to join me on any of these or have ideas for something that would fall on this list somewhere, let me know and we'll make it happen! This is the Summer Edition, so my goal is to complete it all during the summer (June 21-September 21). However, I can't wait to get started. So I'm getting started right away - June 1st start date (tomorrow). Wish me luck and join me if you wish!!
Which means I've been able to get a lot if projects competed. So here are some pictures of the things I've completed. Some of these projects will get their own blog post with step by steps if how I made them, but for now I just wanted to get them up here and share with you all what I've been up to lately.

Curtains in the kitchen. I just recently threw her a bridal shower with an owl theme and wanted to share pictures of the awesome decorations I made. So, as promised, here is what I have on my phone of the lovely owl decor.
I got my seed cataloguein the mail a week or so ago but, haven't had a chance to look through it yet. Partially because my life has been crazy and partially because I don't want to get too excited. I know that sounds odd, so let me explain. Last spring, we put in a lot of time and energy and money and finished what the previous tenants had begun. We turned the front yard into a garden. However, we aren't sure what we're doing when our lease is up at the end of July. And around here, August and September are prime harvest months. I'm at least planting things I can harvest before August, but my debate is whether to plant those other things as well. If not for us, then those who might come in after us. But I get so attached to my plants, the food I've been tending, looking forward to for months. It'd be tough to stay focused and give the same care for the plants knowing I wouldn't be the reaper of the harvest. But then if we ended up staying, I don't want ro lose the opportunity to feed my family from our land, to be connected with the earth around us, to get dirt under my nails and share with those around me who don't have time or land to tend on their own.

I think I will plant, holding nothing back, tending both for me and mine as well as for those to come later.

My husband and I used to live in an apartment complex on the other side of town and we had friends that lived in two other apartments in the same complex. We used to joke that we were like the tv series "Friends." We hardly ever knocked on each other's doors when we visited, we'd meet up at the bar directly next door to the apartments and there were crazy ebbs and flows of relationships always happening. Once a week, me and one of the other girls, Jessica, would get together and have a "Girls Night." This started in college, was strongest when we lived in this particular apartment complex, and lasted for about 7 or 8 years. She now lives an hour away which makes it a bit difficult to be consistent with it.

80s themed birthday party!

Our girls nights would consist of playing games at a restaurant over dinner, going bowling, and grabbing a few drinks. However, most often we'd spend the time at one of our homes between round of N64 Mario Kart or while watching a movie. We did a lot of crafts. She taught me to knit, I taught her to crochet, we scrapbooked together and she helped me learn to read a sewing pattern. Even still, we'll call each other with questions about things that the other has been doing longer. I'd say we're best craft buddies. :)

Jessica is getting married this spring and so naturally, I'm throwing her a bridal shower in a few weeks. And it's full of craftiness. I'm going with an owl theme and have found all kinds of inspiration from Etsy and Pinterest. Here is a little glimpse into what I've been up and some of my inspiration.
There is more I'm working on, but I can't share it quite yet because it's a surprise and I don't want to ruin it for the lovely bride to be. But I wanted to share with the world the fun owl creations I've been working on! It's been fun. I found the ideas and inspirations from here. This past October one of my best friends got married to her best friend. I wanted to do something special for them for their first Christmas together, but I have been low on cash lately. So I got my creativeness up and running and came up with the following project for them. They are both musicians, so that is where the main inspiration came from for this process.

I started by gathering supplies. Modge Podge, an aged and yellowed music score of Mozart, plum colored paper (which happened to be their wedding color), and of course scissors.

Then I found a picture of their silhouettes from their wedding and made it super contrasted so that I could get a good outline of their heads.

Next I covered a piece of white paper in pieces of the music sheet using Modge Podge and a sponge brush.

I wanted to put a heart behind their heads, but all of my hearts I draw are always lopsided, so I found a heart on clip art online and traced it onto a piece of paper so that i was sure it would be symmetrical and then cut it out of the purple paper.

Next, I attached the heart on to the music sheet paper. I didn't get any pictures of the heads in process, but I traced their silhouettes onto white paper, taped the corners to the music paper, and then cut them out with the papers taped together. This gave me nice cut outs of their heads without having to worry about having the traced lines still on the art piece.

I didn't feel like the piece was quite complete with just their heads in the heart, so I wrote out their initials and last name, added it to a frame, and ta da!

It was actually my first time having my stuff for sale in person like that. And it was amazing! I loved it! And not just because business was good.

I was at a table with a good friend from college that I hadn't been able to catch up with for a while. So we were able to chat throughout the evening. Since the bazaar was at the shop where I work I knew a lot of the people because of their caffeine addiction. That made it a lot of fun, getting to chat with friends all night as well as sell my creations.

I had made wide knit headbands with crocheted flowers attached and they were a hit! I'll be posting some on my etsy soon for those who didn't have the chance to swing by last night (also you can send me an email or Facebook message). The evening helped awaken my inspiration for crafts once more.

My husband and I and our room (my sister) all recently went through a 5 week journey in and out of a detox. It was pretty tough the first week, but once we got past the withdrawals of sugar and caffeine, things were great! We had more energy, started dropping weight, learned all kinds of tasty new recipes, and began to regain control of our diet and habits connected with what we put into our bodies. We decided to do this because for too long we have been discussing how we need to get healthy and drop some weight, but just haven't and needed to kick our butts into over drive and make a drastic change in order for it to stick. as we were looking through books and asking around what other people recommended, my good friend lent us this book.

This book, though the cover is quite cheesy, it is a very educational and user friendly way to learn about how what you put into your body effects the way your body works and how it makes you feel. We decided to jump in, feet first and not look back and we don't regret it at all.

The first week we eliminated cane sugar, caffeine, dairy, and wheat. the first two days were the worst for me. I work as a barista and in so doing take in a LOT of caffeine throughout the day. And so I took a lot of naps to get through the withdrawal headaches. Phil and Trina's tough days last a little longer than mine because of their sugar withdrawals. I am more of a salty and savory person, whereas Phil drank a lot of soda and Trina loves desserts and baking. But once we got through our withdrawals and the bit of cranky/sleepiness that came with it, things moved along quite nicely.

Homemade Sushi rolls

We did feel like we were constantly eating or preparing food to eat. Which was good and bad. It was nice that we always had food to eat, but it felt like we had little time to live the rest of our lives. However, now that we have finished and have decided to stick with the meal and snack rhythms laid out for us, it's not so bad. We plan everything two weeks at a time, put the food calendar on the fridge and do all the grocery shopping all at once. That way we can look at the next few days and prepare for the next day and sometimes the next few days at a time. That is really what it all comes down to, having healthy food in the house and knowing what we are going to eat and having it with us when the time comes to chow down.

The second week, we cut out flour of any kind and any sugars besides natural sugars. We learned a lot about whole grains and found a new love of quinoa (for those of you who don't know how to pronounce it, it's keen-wah). We have a lemon water drink every morning and instead of honey, we started adding stevia, a plant based sweetener. Had a lot of granny smith apples, which at the end of the week, actually started tasting really sweet. :)

The following week was our fasting week. For two days we ate only fruit and vegetables. We then fasted for two days. Trina did a mono food fast and Phil and I did the Master Cleanse. Trina ate rice for two days and Phil and I drank a lemon/maple syrup/cayenne pepper concoction. I was nervous I was going to feel super hungry and tired the whole time, but the cayenne pepper warms your digestive tract and helps to fight off the hunger pains. I did pretty much spend the two days sitting on the couch knitting and sleeping with the occasional break to walk the dog around the park.

Next, we started to work our way back towards the beginning. Basically following the above backwards. With the hardest part behind us, we began discussing what our lives were going to look like once we were done with prescribed 5 weeks. As we reintroduced foods back into our diets, we paid close attention to how we reacted to it. We are considering getting tested for food allergies so that we can properly take care of our bodies.

Homemade Gluten Free Pizza
with goat cheese

We have decided to stay sugar, dairy, and gluten free in our house and then making healthy choices when we are out and about. However, Phil and I go out on a weekly date and that will be our "eat whatever the hell we want to" meal. You've got to give yourself a vice, a guided way to "cheat" so that you can satisfy the cravings in a healthy way. The nice thing is, when we were fasting, I was super craving a gooey cheesy pizza, but now the idea of it hurts my belly. I still want pizza, but I'm craving a healthy version now.

We made a drastic change and are closer to living the life we want to live, which is an active healthy and happy one. And it has been more than worth it!

I have never been the best at taking the things going on in my mind and putting them into words on a piece of paper. My mind moves too quickly. There are some people that are really gifted by that, but sometimes it is just on my heart that I need to share some of my thoughts, and so here it goes.

There has been a lot going on lately, especially in my mind. There are a lot of people in my life dealing with illness and disease, and some facing death. There has also been so many friends finding out they are about to bring new life into the world. This has really just kind of hit me in the face lately. Life, that is. And how much we forget to live it. And through this I have begun to realize how much I have gotten my priorities messed up. I get so worked up about the petty things and I am too okay with waiting and putting things off. The fact of the matter is, life is short. We have been given a life to live and none of us know just how long it will be. But yet we live with this mentality that we will never die, we’ll just go on living day to day and never have to face death, until it comes and punches us in the face. But truthfully, we aren’t promised tomorrow. And that is really starting to make sense to me. Some get a bit of a heads up on how long they have left. For others, it comes out of nowhere, an accident. Some watch others go through it, close family and friends. Others haven’t had to experience that pain. And some go through life without ever really thinking about it or being faced with it.

Listening to the story of Ryan Woods has helped to teach me this. I have never had the chance to really be friends with Ryan, but we are acquaintances I would say. However, I am close friends with so many people that have been deeply impacted by his life. Hearing them all share about their experiences and thanking him for the difference he has made in their lives, it is forcing me to think about how those differences were made. They were made by Ryan living life, and living life for Jesus. Which brings me to question myself and my life. Why do I let days, weeks, go by without really living? Why put off doing that project I’ve had on my mind? Why avoid that conversation just because it’s uncomfortable, but that will ultimately end in a better relationship? Why not reach for my dreams now? I have just really been thinking about how I was happier at one point in my life, and why was that? I’m realizing it is because I lived more, I chased after things, I spent time with friends and family instead of complaining about minuscule things; thinking “woah is me” instead of getting up and going and changing what few things I can and then giving the rest up to God. And that is where I have really noticed a change in me, I don’t give things up to God as much as I used to, I don’t let him deal with the stress and the planning and the future. I try to do it and then I don’t have the energy or time to try to live life because I used it all trying to play God.

So, I am going to challenge myself to change. I am going to speak up instead of huffing off. I am going to do things instead of laying in my bed and be sad about not doing anything. I am going to make friends and I am going to invest in them. I am going to be honest. I am going to love Jesus and try my best to love like Jesus. I am going to extend grace and give people second chances (I have never been good at that). I am going to listen to my emotions and be in touch with them. I am going to cry when I feel like it. I am going to act, instead of waiting for others to take the lead. I am going to live life now because I am not promised tomorrow. And I am going to let God take care of tomorrow.

And I am challenging you to do the same.

It is the 4th and I am still on track. On the first, I spent most of my time in the back yard. Let me show you a bit about my day that day. I designated this section between the main front yard and our parking lot (yes, we have an entire gravel parking lot for our house) the pea section. Sugar peas and snap peas. Delicious!

So, this little section was not turned into garden space like the rest of the front yard. Therefore it was still covered with grass. So I pulled up all the grass.

peas will live here

But it was not tall enough to really see a lot of sun right now since it's still "winter" and the way the sun is currently traveling across our lot, the higher garden space doesn't lend to a lot of sun time to this lower section. So, I was in need of some extra dirt. To raise the level of ground, to even out the space, and to help secure that wall of railroad ties.

my wheel barrow system

We had a bit of a gopher problem this winter in our back yard (and in the park next door) and I have been trying to figure out what we were going to do to get the yard back to a usable space for the soon to be nicer weather. Then it hit me, I needed to move these lumps of dirt out of my back yard and I also needed more dirt for the front yard... I would move the dirt! But being as that this is our first year really diving in to gardening, we do not have a wheel barrow... but we have buckets and shovels. So I loaded up bucket after bucket and carried them to the front, dumped the out in the designated pea section and returned to fill the buckets again. It was tough, but in the end I was able to use our push mower and get our lawn mowed for the first time since september. Very satisfying first day of this month long commitment!

I brought home some coffee grounds from work the next day and mixed them into the freshly laid dirt and used some railroad ties that fell out of the yard wall to give the patch some edges. Then Phil and I worked together to clear off the side walk of overgrown grass from that little section of yard space between the sidewalk and street. We are hoping to put blueberries and some companion plant in that space if it turns out the dirt is deep enough.

That was most of the work i was able to get to on the 2nd. The 3rd wasn't a very successful day, but I did spend time working. Phil (my man) trimmed a bush that was threatening to take over our front porch while I was at work in the morning. When I got home, I trimmed an elderberry plant in the back yard that was threatening to take over our back porch. We stood in the gardening talking and dreaming of what it will become. We took a drive up highway 30 to the Linton Feed and Seed store and purchased some pea twine and a few other items we needed for the garden. Then this morning while Phil cooked us breakfast, I planted our sugar peas. I prepared the area for the snap peas, but they have to wait until the end of the month to be planted. Just the sugar peas got to go in today. I gave them little bamboo poles to climb up and hills to grow out of. Watered them a bit to get the germination process started. And now the first waiting begins. That is always an exciting time. Waiting and watching for the first thing to sprout. I've got some herbs in pots that I am also waiting to sprout... we'll see what comes up first! I spent a few minutes working on the patch next to the peas where the sunflowers will go, but those won't go in for a while.

Today is the 4th and i have been successful thus far.
We have decided that our front yard garden space needs a renovation. This is what is currently looks like.

We are planning on building actual garden boxes so as to really utilize the space better, be able to have more rows of things, a bit more organized and strategic. I ordered some seeds from a local seed company and have been utilizing a few online sites as well as this book I picked up a last spring to help me learn and plan how to really be fruitful at this (pun intended).

So my first big project was the wild crazy raspberries that have been taking over half of our backyard. In October i pulled out a bunch, dug up the roots, and transplanted a small patch of strawberries plants that my mom sent me from her garden. I mulched them with some sawdust our landlord had laying around (he lives on the property with us) and some leaves I picked up over the course of a few bike rides around town since we only have evergreen trees by our house. There are still a few green leaves poking their little way through the mulch so I have a pretty good feeling about those little hardy plants. I'll uncover them at the end of the month, weather permitting, and we'll find out for sure how they are doing.

On Sunday, even though it was still technically January and my month of gardening had not yet begun, my younger sister came over and, dressed in our matching rain gear, we set to work digging, trimming, and trellising the rest of the raspberries. It was a pretty wet day as most days here can be, but when you live in Oregon and want to do anything outside, you have be willing to either get wet or never get anything done. And we were determined to get some much needed outdoor time. I was also determined by the memories of all the raspberries we had the past summer but were unable to reach because the plants were so thick and bountiful. This year would be different.
We worked in the rain for about an hour and half together. My sister spent time trimming back the crazy plants. I spent my time with a shovel. In the top right corner of the above picture you can vaguely see a green metal pole structure. I decided that was going to be the trellis for the raspberries. But it was next to them inside of around them and each pole was held into the ground by a good two feet of cement. So i set to work digging and digging around those poles. It took awhile, but i eventually freed them from the ground and with the help of my dear sister, we were able to lug them to their new home of encircling the raspberries where they will soon help to support the bountiful bushes. Needless to say, we got a little muddy, but it was well worth it.
Started by planning and starting some of my potted herb garden. Looked around online and planned for when payday arrives what seeds to order first! Sunday i have some friends coming to help really get going on landscaping it all. This year I really want to really go crazy with the plants. Our entire front and "side" yard is currently garden area but we are going to put in raised beds and really go at it! In the back i planted a strawberry patch with plants from my mom. There were already raspberries going crazy when we moved in and I hope to add a few blue berry bushes to the mix as well. We dream of having chickens, sharing the space/coop with the neighbors. I will be posting pictures and more in depth stories and dreams and updates as the season goes on. So this is simply a spike-your-interest post. :)My Days' Inspirationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02670165045738004381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3282614000738845531.post-59581619697455863222011-10-30T11:06:00.000-07:002011-10-30T11:07:16.510-07:00future dreams

Lately I've been making a lot of custom orders for friends and family. It's been pretty fun. They just tell me what they have in mind and then i get to interpret their thoughts and words into creative fun projects and hopefully good looking items. I made my sister-in-law a set of 12 crocheted wash clothes, then i made a friend a sewn reversible baby hat, and another friend a crocheted black beanie. Next project, a crocheted dress for my niece who is 1 1/2 years old and absolutely adorable. It will be quite the challenge, but lots of fun.
I think that custom orders are a lot of fun. They create a unique type of challenge of taking someone else's idea, mixing it with my talent, opinion, and style, and making something unique and original that no one has. I love it!
It's fun to know that something you made from complete scratch, no one else's pattern, is out there being used and seen and commented on. I could get used to this, I wouldn't even mind if it became a pretty big habit of mine.My Days' Inspirationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02670165045738004381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3282614000738845531.post-89329538595600905292011-10-05T19:57:00.000-07:002011-10-05T22:27:23.524-07:00Old TimesI have rediscovered 80s/90s romantic comedies. You know, the "When Harry Met Sally" genre, which by the way takes home the gold ALWAYS! The time before technology ruled the world of relationships and people spent real time getting to know who was this person. When we had to be on time for our appointments because we couldn't simply send a text saying we were running behind. We had to wait to tell each other our exciting news because everyone wasn't 100% reachable all the time. Stories were told with hand gestures and facial expressions instead of emoticons and LOLs. The time of answering machines and hand written snail mail. There was something beautiful about that. Kids played in the streets, everyone knew their neighbors, and most teens knew what the game kick the can was.

These memories remind me of so many things from the past. I love vintage furniture and old fabrics. Books and recipes handed down from our grandparents. Sometimes I just like to wander into an antique or vintage shoppe and get lost in the aisles for a couple hours. Dreaming of how many owners these items have had, what purposes they have served to who, and what each of them meant to someone over the years. I begin to have visions of what they could be in the future, how I could give them life once more and start the next season in this neglected items life. And the inspiration begins.

I see children's hats made out of old curtains. I see vases created from old milk jars. Buttons added to accent handmade headbands. Rick Rack and thread and lace finally finding a dress to be a part of. I'll buy that old, out of style pattern and change it up a bit to make it stylish and wearable. This buckle would look great with that long shirt I've been working on.

So many things that are just waiting at my finger tips for new life and love.
I've been crocheting for most of my life and have been learning knitting over the past few years and so i decided to try making up my own pattern and went to work. It turned out adorable, as most things for little ones do.

if you want to make your own, here is how!

Knit Band
cast on 7 stitches
Next Row: Knit 1, purl 1, Knit 1, etc. to end.
Next Row: Knit 1, purl, knit 1, bring yarn forward, knit 2 together, purl 1, knit 1
All other rows: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1
Continue this pattern until your band is the desired length (this could end up fitting an adult sized head, a newborn, and anyone in between)
Cast off in pattern.
Put a cute little button on the end opposite the button hole made from the yarn forward stitch.
*For future reference, this stitch pattern is know as seed stitch

crocheted flower

Crocheted Flower
Chain 5, slip stitch to join to first chain.
single crochet 12 in loop made by chain.
To shape petals slip stitch in single crochet, ch 4, slip stitch in same stitch. Repeat for each single crochet, fasten off.
If you leave longer ends of yarn at the beginning and end, then you can use these to tie the flower onto the band.

And there you have it, an adorable headband.
So, we have made it. We moved out of the old, slightly life threatening, house, into our new, cozy abode with most of our old roommates a few new ones. We now reside in the lovely peaceful neighborhood in North Portland known as St Johns. It was quite the summer with house hunting, cleaning, packing, painting, fixing, and then finally moving. Once we moved, then there was the whole separate task of unpacking, cleaning, weeding out the things we packed months before and realized we didn't really need to cart around any longer, and settling in. Just this past friday, i became the proud owner of a free blue desk that is just the right size for all my crafting needs. And then i found and purchased from a lovely lady Camas WA a Kenmore sewing machine for $35. It came with an adorable little basket, all the little tools that go with sewing machines, and a handful of thread. I spent the rest of the evening unpacking the last of my neglected craft materials.

Now i can begin the art of creating lovely usable things once again. My hands have missed having something to work with and my brain has suffered from lack of a positive source to channel all the stress and emotion of life. And so sunday afternoon was spent learning the ways of the new sewing machine. I was able to knit a few items this past month for some little baby friends of mine, but now the work space has been created once more and with it a new sanity and peace of mind.
Things I love about September: the arrival of my sister and her man from a 4 year stay in providence, the crispness returning to the air, the sunrises and sunsets full of colors that match the many present in the trees, the wonderful family of people that fills this house day in and day out, the anticipation of more sisters moving back to the beautiful Northwest and all the adventure that entails, sunflowers, fall rain, and with every changing of the season comes a renewed passion and drive for life and change and love. These are the things i want to share with the world, these are the things that spark the imagination that ignites in my brain the need to create something beautiful and purposeful items from things that have lost their use or have been left on the store rack for so long they've been marked down 5 times. Fall is upon us and with that inspiration has started anew.
This year however, i was prepared and at the ready. I hit the fields the first day they opened with my dear friend Jessica and our pups.
We picked berries in the early morning ours on an overcast, warm, perfect saturday and headed back to her place to begin the transformation of these beautiful berries into tasty jams.
After a long, but very fulfilling afternoon we had a few batches of freezer jam, strawberry rhubarb jam, strawberry balsamic vinegar jam and enough left over for some snacking on and pie filling.

I am rereading Barbara Kingsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" this summer because the lovely way in which she writes about food and how is gets to our plates inspires me to go the extra mile and care about what happens to the food that ends up in my body. She has awoken the passion in me for good tasting food and knowing how to pronounce all the ingredients in my meal.

Last night i learned how to make button holes on the sewing machine! It was easier than i thought and now i wonder why in the world i waited so long! A whole new skill has been opened up for me. :-) I made a long button up shirt and it turned out perfect.
The best part about making your own clothes is that they can be tailored to your exact body type. The worst part is that you have to cut out everything on a flat, clean surface. Having a dog and two cats that absolutely LOVE to be involved in every aspect of my life makes that quite a challenge.

Me, my husband phil, and these three adorable fur balls make up my little family. We live in a house in portland that is always filled with people. We dwell in The House of Numbers with four other lovely portlanders and share a lot of meals and music together. This is my home. And there is never a dull moment. Our life here is ever changing, people coming and going, couch stayers, spontaneous bbqs, and random outbursts of music. One guy brews beer, another plays and repairs all kinds of musical instruments, there are a few baristas, a few students, a few recycling bins, many bikes, a VW bug, and a lot of love. We try to be more of a family than roommates and are in constant conversation of what exactly that means.

This is where my inspiration begins.
I have decided to finally join the blog world. It's late (for me) on a friday night, I have learned to appreciate my love for creating things, and i have also decided it is time to share that love and that creativity with the world out there. Here is the place to find the inspiration behind my creations, the reasons why i do what i do and where those reasons begin exactly.

I hope this can be a place for you to learn, to grow, to be inspired, to inspire, and to develop a deeper love of creating and created thingsMy Days' Inspirationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02670165045738004381noreply@blogger.com0
